50-MILE COURSE (page 1)

0900Hrs Start Wallington Community Hall.

Turn right out of hall and proceed to T junction at Standard way.

Turn right into STANDARD WAY proceed for approx Ľ mile. 0.25 miles

Turn left under Motorway (opposite North Wallington turn off). 0.5 miles

Turn left and follow lane to T junction.

Turn right into NINE ELMS LANE proceed up hill. 1.0 miles

Turn left at top of hill and follow road to Staple crossroads. 1.8 miles

Straight on over STAPLE CROSSROADS. ! Caution main road 3.6 miles

(follow road towards Horse and Jockey/Chairmakers/Denmead)

Turn left into BUNN LANE (just over bridge before Horse & Jockey) 5.0 miles

Turn left then right (staggered junction) into HOE STREET. 5.9 miles

Straight on over Hoegate crossroads. 7.3 miles

Turn right onto B2150 Hambledon road. Proceed down hill ! caution 8.8 miles

Turn left just before bottom of hill ! caution drain in middle of turn off 9.0 miles

( This is Clanfield/Petersfield road)

Turn left at T junction follow road to CLANFIELD. 10.3 miles

Turn left at T junction (opposite Twyford moors motors Clanfield) 13.1 miles

Through Clanfield village bear right and follow road towards A3 13.2 miles

Turn right at roundabout over A3 Flyover bridge 14.7 miles

Turn left onto Chalton/Butser Ancient farm road 15.0 miles

Straight on through CHALTON village and follow road to Finchdean 16.0 miles

Turn left at T junction in FINCHDEAN village (pub opposite) 18.8 miles

Follow this road under rail bridge past 12^th century church and on to private road to Woodcroft and Ditcham park school (sign shows dead end; ignore this)

This junction is just before left hand bend over rail bridge leading back to Chalton.

21.0 miles

! CAUTION this is a private road for the school and is narrow in parts and has several speed humps. Please respect school users. Follow private road up hill and through school grounds. ! CAUTION, on the downhill run watch out for left hand hairpin bend at 24.3 miles and sharp right hand bend at 24.5 miles.

Turn left at T junction with B2146 Petersfield road. 25.2 miles

! CAUTION there are several deep ruts in this road at approx 25.5 and 27 miles.

Turn right into Heath Road East, signpost Winchester and Herne Farm. 27.0 miles

Straight on over crossroads with A272 through SHEET village. 28.1 miles

Follow this road for several miles passing St Mary Magdalen church to your right.

Do not turn off. The first sign you will see is on a left hand bend pointing to Weathay and

Oakshott at 29.4 miles. Just a little further on be prepared for a short very steep climb.

Bear left at junction at top of this climb. 29.9 miles

( You are now in the area known to locals as little Switzerland) ! CAUTION roads are narrow and bad condition in places.

Straight on, following sign to Steep/Petersfield. 30.4 miles

Turn right at T junction 31.4 miles

Straight on over crossroads into Ridge Common Lane. 31.5 miles

(this is at the bottom of Stoner hill, Cricketers Pub to your right)

Turn right at T junction with A272 at STROUD village. 32.9 miles

Turn left at bottom of hill in Langrish, sign posted East Meon. 34.4 miles

Turn left by church into East Meon village, 36.5 miles

Turn right just past George Pub. 36.5 miles

Follow road to top of Chidden down crossroads (CHECK POINT)

Please have your card signed here.

Straight on over crossroads sign posted Hambledon 39.0 miles

Bear right sign posted Droxford/ Corehampton 39.1miles

Turn first left then right and left over staggered junction

towards Soberton (sign broken) 40.4 miles

Turn left at bottom of hill onto B2150 Hambledon/Droxford road 41.3 miles

Turn first right (at top of hill). There is no sign but this is the same road

we used on the way out, leading back to Fareham. 41.9 miles

Over Hoe cross farm crossroads signed Southwick/Fareham 43.4 miles

Left then immediate right over staggered junction into Bunns lane 44.8 miles

Turn right onto Hambledon/Staplecrossroads/Southwick road. 45.7 miles

Straight on over Staple crossroads (Wickham/Southwick junction) 47.1 miles

Ignore Nine Elms Lane turn off and follow hill right down to the subway

under the M27 and back to Wallington hall. TOTAL 50 miles

Turn right out of hall and proceed to T junction at Standard way.

Turn left at T junction follow road towards CLANFIELD. 10.3 miles

Turn left Bat and Ball pub crossroads (at top of hill) sign posted East Meon

11.7 miles

Turn left junction at top of hill towards HMS Mercury, Old Winchester Hill

and Warnford. 13.5 miles

Check point at top of Chidden down please stop to have card signed 15.2 miles

Continue straight on over old Winchester hill( this is ideal picnic stop)

Fork right at next junction (no sign) towards West Meon. 16.9 miles

! PROCEED WITH CAUTION down this hill especially towards bottom.

Turn left at West Meon onto A32 towards Warnford/Exton 18.1 miles

Turn left at roundabout just past Exton then first left at Meonstoke 22.0 miles

Follow signs to Soberton.

Turn left at B2150 Hambledon road then immediate right at Hurdles pub to Soberton.

! Caution this is a hazardous junction and there is a large amount of grit on road

so please be prepared to dismount before turning onto B2150 road.

Continue to Soberton

Turn right at staggered crossroads (Soberton village hall) Stay on this road

through Soberton Heath and Newtown past Travellers Rest pub,

following signs to Fareham/Southwick

Turn right at T junction(half way up hill) sign post Fareham Southwick. 28.0 miles

Straight on over Staple cross crossroads sign post Fareham. 29.0 miles

Follow road to Fareham, past Nine Elms lane and M27 turnoffs, to the bottom of the hill where you will see the subway under motorway to you left, then turn right into Standard way and left back to the Hall. TOTAL 32.0 miles

On both routes there are plenty of Pubs and a few shops to get refreshments.
