Entries for the final PTTL event must be in by Wednesday 13th Sept - so get your entry in to Don - tomorrow club night might be a good time to remember this! Due to the continued roadwork on the B2177 (Wickham - Southwick) it will be a shorter version of the intended course. Probably about 5 miles ! ! Starting at Trampers Lane North Boarhunt.; and a gut busting ride up Portsdown Hill and back.  It clashes with the 'South Down Challenge'  but you might be able to do both if you get an early start on the TT!

Dave Rich and Phil Burton rode in the www.Agiskoviner.com 10 mile  Open TT today on the H10/8 Bentley course. Phil managed to plateau with exactly the same time as 2 weeks ago (22:27) good enough for 15th. No team award this week - oh well!

27/08/2007

Angus Fileman and Geoff Loveman rode in the a3crg 50 mile open TT on the P885. Geoff rode a p.b. of 1:54:31, Angus rode a 2:39:20.  Angus says, "For the record I did puncture @ about 35 miles. Until then I was more or less on target for my vets standard time of 2:21. As it was I changed my tube and cruised to the finish." Bad luck Angus and well done for finishing after that! Phil, Larry and Geoff rode in the last of the Velocity Mountbatten circuit events of 2007. Having almost enough points for cat 2, Larry and Phil weren't aiming to get any more points as they don't want to miss out on the great local cat 3 races next year, so they worked hard to chase down all the breaks doing a great job of controlling the race. Geoff went in a break towards the end of the race but it didn't work out. In the sprint Geoff went for it too early and was going backwards by the end, rolling in with Phil. Larry placed 7th despite his best efforts not to score any points! As it was the final event, Rich Pearman of Velocity presented prizes for the final league standings, courtesy of Velocity bikes. Phil placed 4th in the league and Larry placed 7th - great results for FWCC!

Phil and Neil raced in the 2-3-4cat Sotonia 40th anniversary road race today.  52 miles of the Owslebury course under humid conditions with a healthy 60+ turnout.  Phil had a go early on, bridging across to a fledgling escape group only to be foiled by a lack of cooperation in the group and they were swallowed up.  Both Neil and Phil spent the majority of the race keeping pace in the peloton whilst the break of the day went away with four laps to go.  Neil unshipped his chain at the base of the climb on the penultimate lap, chased back on but couldn't match the acceleration over the top of the hill and drifted off the back.  Phil rode smart and tried to select a good position (5th wheel) for the bunch sprint - a very impressive sight; he finished strongly through heavy traffic for 13th spot.  This was a great race and will be one to watch out for next year on the super selective Owslebury Circuit, a real treat! Results here..

12/07/2007

Steve Wilkinson placed 4th in the 2007 Great Divide Mountain Bike Race - A Trans-America ultra-race from border to border of 2,490 miles, solo and self-supported. Read all about his exploits here..

Dave's mtb rides for July are now up on the mtb section..

01/07/2007

Phil Burton represented FWCC in the 3/4 Cat Dave Ryan Memorial Road Race on the Beckley course near Oxford. An 80+ field competed over the 4 x 22.5 Km laps that consisted of a large flat section and three climbs of between 4 - 10%. The good weather and course made for a fast and exciting race. A break of 5 got away on lap 3, Phil and other riders found it difficult to close down as team mates of those in the break did a good job of hindering the chase. The break managed to stay away to the finish by 15 - 20 secs. The finish was on at the top of a 8% climb and although Phil felt he had good legs, poor positioning in the large bunch prevented a higher place. Results are on the BC website..

24/06/2007

Roadwork's on the B2177 Wickham - Southwick Road, will undoubtedly affect the next two 25 mile events. A decision has been taken to run both, but as a shorter version of the course. As things stand  at the moment  we will leaving out the whole of the B2177 section and finish each in Rookesbury Farm Gateway approx 500 yds south of the  ' Roebuck ' Pub. This would give a distance of approx 20.6 miles.  (car measurement). Next Thursday's event  5th July is for the Hodges Handicap Cup, which we still hope to run. It would help Don if members entered in advance so that he can figure out what their handicap time should be more accurately. The second event affected is the PTTL event on Sunday 15th July, this closes next week - Don is looking for riders and helpers!

23/06/2007

Another windy day (but no rain) at Bentley saw 2 wheelers on the start sheet for the Farnham RC open 25 on the H25/8. Dave Rich did a new pb of 59:42 and Matt Warlow did a 1:00:55. Well done guys!
22/06/2007

The roadworks that forced shortening last night's TT are connected with laying new water pipes along the length of the road - this appears to be long term so we may not be able to use the course again this year. We may be using the P813 (Travellers Rest/Hipley) or the P817 so check here or at the club before heading out to the next P829 event.

21/06/2007

Roy Bailey rode a 23:07 in the Bognor Regis CC 10 mile open TT on the P901 - you can check the full results here..

Phil Burton of FWCC won this evening's club 9 mile TT  - nice one Phil - correct me if I'm wrong but I reckon this course hasn't been used before so that makes Phil's time the course record for the P829c/9. May it stand forever! Results are now posted here..

20/06/2007

Phil, Rik, Larry and Geoff rode in the Mountbatten circuits cat 3/4 race this evening. The guys were all active at the front of the race from the start, trying to get in a break. After a couple of attempts a break that looked like it had a chance of staying away formed up with Larry getting in there. The other FWCC boys stayed up at the front to slow the chase and the tactic worked - the break lapped the bunch and Larry placed fourth in the sprint - more points for Fareham in the South region table! Full results here..

18/06/2007

Just a reminder that next Monday (25th) is Tour de France quiz night - see the social events page for more info..

***

Roy Bailey rode a 59-59 at the Bognor Regis CC Dennis Doughty club 25 on the P901 at Fontwell today. Roy says "I have not been under [the hour] for 5 years, due to an injury so its very good to be under again, and the first time for the club. Had a bit of a ding dong with Peter Younghusband - I was his minute man and I was caught on the long leg between Arundel and Fontwell - it took him 4 attempts to get past totally, after Tangmere and then by a 14 s difference at the finish. He said he was a bit tired after riding a tt and a 9 mile run the previous evening! But that's Triathletes for you." Nice one Roy - great ride! You can download the full results here [29kb]

13/06/20007

Wet conditions for Rik and Geoff who rode in tonight's cat 3/4 Velocity bikes circuit race at the Mountbatten centre. 30/05/2007

Larry and Phil rode the Velocity circuits at Mountbatten. The FWCC riders worked extremely hard on a blustery night to bring back a dangerous early break. At half way 2 riders got away and Phil had to bridge to get a Fareham presence at the front. The three riders managed to stay away and Phil got a pleasing 3rd spot. Larry blocked well and was rewarded with a good 2nd in the bunch sprint and 5th overall. A good points haul for FWCC on the night. Riders are reminded there is no racing at Mountbatten next week (6/6/07).

24/05/2007

Ray Robinson of Velocity won this evening's 10 with a time of 22.42 - full results are here..

Luke Cole, Larry Wiltshire and Phil Burton rode in the Mountbatten circuits CAT 3/4 race on Wed evening. A fast race saw the FWCC team very active, attacking and getting in a number of breaks. Unfortunately the team missed the important winning attack and had to be satisfied with contesting for the minor places in the final bunch sprint. A good leadout from the the team got Larry to the final straight and he took an excellent 2nd in the sprint and 8th overall. Check the results here. An excellent evenings workout for the team. Photos are here under "Velocity circuits."

Fareham were well represented at the Thruxton circuit races again this weekend. The cat 4 race was pretty hairy with nervy riding causing several crashes, one of which brought Luke down close to the finish - leaving him with a cut face - bad luck Luke. The other Wheelers were lucky enough to avoid the chutes, Geoff, Neil and Larry placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th and Richard finished well in the bunch in what was his first race. Great rides!

20/02/2007

Start times for the club run are to change as from the 4th March:

08.40  from Titchfield Mill
09.00  from Wickham Square
Additionally, there will be 2 groups to suit ability. A faster group will set off first,  averaging 17-19 mph. The second group will go a couple of minutes later, aiming for 15-17mph, the idea being if someone is unable to keep up with the first group, they can drop back to the second group.

Don't forget, Monday night at the club is your last chance to enter the first PTTL event - see Don on Monday. The  i-team are competing in the PTTL this year but points will still be based on your 4 best rides. There will also be a team award based on the best aggregate score of three riders from each club. Throughout the series, you remain in whatever age category you are in on the 1st March, so to avoid confusion on categories, you need to give your date of birth on entry (it's 21, of course!)

Hi everyone - you will notice a small change on the notice board - when you add a message you will see a random code that you have to type in  before your message gets displayed - this is to prevent the automated spam we have been getting - if you are having trouble with a code, it may be that you are entering the letter 'O' - it should be the digit - zero '0'. I have made some other changes behind the scenes which may also help but we will have to wait and see!

11 February 2007

The team a3crg 10 mile time trial will be taking place at Liss on Saturday the 24th Feb. This year the course has been changed so you can take part even if you are more of a lard-rider than a hard-rider. You need to enter by this Tuesday though, so fill in this form with the details on this page and send it to David Collard Berry at the address on this page with a cheque made out to a3crg for seven quid. Imagine seeing your name in Cycling Weekly and picture the glory that could be yours, all for seven quid. I could even pick you up on my way there, naturally, if you beat me you'll be cycling home (  ;

Despite a meeting between Goodwood's track manager, Keith Butler of the Surrey Cycle Racing League  and Keith Brooks of VC Meudon on Jan 17th, the Tuesdays at Goodwood are NOT on for 2007. This is a decision by the Goodwood Board of Directors based on a number of issues including staffing, finance and insurance issues. They are sympathetic but adamant.
