Youth Racing report from Thruxton: Sunday 25th March

It was more of the same stunning spring weather on Sunday at Thruxton. The field of a dozen or so Youth C riders taking advantage of the sunny weather by riding bear armed or legged and in some cases both. There was a ‘Tolkien-esque’ mist around the Circuit early on but this had lifted by the 0930 start time.

The three lap, 7 mile race comprised most of the field from the previous Sunday but there were sadly only two girls – Caitlin and the talented Pfeiffer Georgi from Devon, a 2nd yr U12. (Come on girls, where are you?!)

Harry Tadman (Hillingdon Slipstreamers) tried his usual break from the gun but the bunch was ably chased down by none other than Caitlin. This set the tone of the race with SuperMiss being very active at the front, passing through the chicane first on lap 1 and 2. (Although great to see her confidence growing with every race, this was going to tell in the final run in………….) The main bunch was still 10 or so strong up the drag to the chicane on the final lap……Caitlin obeyed the Team Peters DS’s orders to the letter and exited the turns in the lead.

She then buried herself all the way to the finish line. (See pic – Caitlin head down in front!) Although stretching out a lead of about 4 metres coming into the finishing straight, the constant efforts began to tell (plus the three hours at Calshot on Saturday afternoon!) and Harry Tadman surged past followed by one or two others….With 150m to go Caitlin was still lead girl but the more experienced Pfeiffer timed her sprint to perfection and over hauled Caitlin to secure a fine win.

The spectators were treated to another very exciting race and as Gavin Squires (FWCC 4th Cat) was heard to say Strewth, I never realised the youngsters races were quite that competitive!”

(Thanks as ever to the Omega organising team, and Andrew H from the i-team for his snaps.)
