FWCC Road Race Annual Report 2007

 

A very successful season for the road racers of the club. With two first places and a large number of top ten finishes. A break down of results is given at the end of the report. The club finished third overall in the British Cycling South Regional Rankings.

 

The FWCC colours were seen during a great number of the local races for the lower categories in 2007. This has promoted a lot of interest in the club with perspective new members asking about getting into racing.

 

There was only one unfortunate rider who missed a lot of the season through injury. Otherwise most riders have achieved all their personal racing goals. As a group the riders have worked hard to maintain the clubs third place in the regional rankings against teams with a lot more competitors.

 

Next year the club hopes to attract more racers. To help encourage this and open up other events for the present riders it is proposed that the club rejoins the Surrey Racing League. This has a great number of extra races for the riders to choose to take part in.

 

Special mentions to Larry, Geoff, Rik and Neil who got their Cat 3 licences this year. The club has 7 present members at this level now.

 

The Wednesday night Mountbatten Circuits provided a lot of great racing this summer with FWCC doing well most weeks. This was an exciting and welcome series after the disappointing news early in the season that Goodwood was not to host mid week races in 2007. In the final Mountbatten 3 Cat league standings Phil was 4^th and Larry 6^th.

 

As always the amount of work done by other club members with marshalling and support must be noted. A number of other local clubs races would not have gone so well without the help of FWCC members. Unfortunately  the clubs own LVRC event was cancelled due to Peter’s illness. (We wish him a speedy recovery). The committee have expressed the desire to make sure this event goes ahead in 2008. The committee is also a exploring the possibility of the club organising a BC event in the future.

 

Thanks goes out as always to Tim and Sue Knight and the team at the South BC region for their hard work throughout the year. Special thanks to Hampshire Police for the out riders on the local road events, a great job done. Well done to the race organisers and their clubs for some great days racing. Finally thanks to the competition it has been a competitive but very enjoyable years racing against the other teams.
