Fareham Wheelers Cycling Club

founded 1927

Fareham Wheelers

Fareham Wheelers caters for all standards of cycling, from beginner to veteran. The club has a friendly atmosphere and is also competitive when it comes to racing and time trials.

Every Sunday morning throughout the year, we meet for a social ride - the club run. With two groups to choose from, you can join in either the steady or faster social rides around the Hampshire countryside, finishing at a tea shop for refreshment. Rides vary between 25 to 50 miles, you choose.

During the spring and summer season the club holds time trials over various distances and currently has an active road racing team, which is supported by Speltham Contracts. Several members take part in racing at the Goodwood circuit and the Mountbatten Centre track at Portsmouth.

Whether you ride for leisure or sport, cycling is a great way to get fit and stay in shape and a club is the best place to get started, share advice, find out about cycling events and of course, enjoy riding with other keen cyclists. We meet socially on Monday evenings (except Bank Holidays) at Wallington Community Hall, Fareham, 7:30 to 9:30 pm. For more details, follow the options under the About Us heading in the menu above.

Mountbatten Circuit races - Report from Henry:

What a day at the track! George won the U16's with Guy coming in 2nd place (after a mechanical..)
By far the story of the day was in the 3/4 race. Riding were Ian 'breakaway' Donohue, Oliver Brotherton, and Dave Young.. Before the race we were discussing how Dave needed 10 points to become a second category rider, which he was very much intending on not doing because the racing really steps up - so within the first lap Dave was in the break of four that proceeded to gain a lap on the field! The only other break that gained a lap was a two man break with FWCC's very own Ian Donohue.. Come the sprint, it was Dave Young who crossed the line ahead of the other break away riders, with Ian placing third. So this means that Dave is now a second category rider - which definitely deserves a very big well done! It is deservedly so, as for weeks Dave has proved to be the most consistent rider in these races.. After the race Dave said he was now retiring from Mountbatten Wednesday night racing!!!

Well done everyone and Congratulations to Dave, results are here..

Phill Chinn and Pete Day have been racing in the cat 3/4 events on Monday nights in the  Upavon Summer Series which is sponsored by KFS Special Vehicles. Phill says 'we both agree that it's a great circuit to race at...the circuit is 2 miles in length and of a good quality...it's very wide and has a slight climb to the finish and a lovely sweeping descent around the back of the circuit...I just wanted to let any one who hasn't raced up there know how much Pete and I like it, and to say give it a go!!'

Well done guys - this week's results are here..

Mountbatten Circuits report from Henry:

It was another gleaming day at the track for FWCC, with Guy and George riding in the U16's, Joe Donohue riding in the U14's, and Caitlin riding in the U10's.. Guy just grabbed 1st place (Well done Guy - now a 4th cat!!) from George in the sprint, which was won by Harvey Watson of Velocity Bikes from the U14's, putting Joe Donohue into 2nd place I believe, after he got another 2nd place on Tuesday at Goodwood..  Caitlin was unfortunately out tactic'd again, though rode to a strong second place as I understand - Cue a Gareth pep talk!  In the 3/4ths for FWCC were Ian Donohue and Dave Young, who both rode very attacking rides, both getting into their fair share of breaks, but unfortunately every break they made was brought back before the bunch sprint - i'm unsure of final placings.. In the E123 was not Phil Reynolds this week due to a surfing accident that see's him out of action until next week - best wishes for a speedy recovery..  I was just getting back into hard riding after being ill this weekend, so rode strongly with Andy Rivett to lead Jay Eastwood out for 2nd place..

South Region Road Circuit Champs:

A big well done to Joe Donohue, who won first place in the under 14's category, and a shiny gold medal, and also well done to George Fryer who paced third in the under 16's after a morning 25 mile TT! Elsewhere in the Youths races, Caitlin placed 2nd in the U10 girls while Guy found it a tough race in the U16's with the pace much higher than any Mountbatten crit so far..

In the seniors over 40 race, Ian Donohue and Dave Young rode, where Ian got in a break, but it didn't stay away and both finished in the bunch. Henry won the Junior's race (well done!) but later suffered a migraine, possibly brought on by a severe lack of any orange in his team colours. Results here..

***

Congrats to Nick Andrews of PNECC who won today's FWCC PTTL 25 mile TT, with our own Dave Dalton only seven seconds down on Nick for second place - well done Dave! Results here.. League table here..

***

Graham White rode in the BJW 25 mile open TT on the P413 - results here..

Mountbatten Circuits race report from Henry: Another great Day for FWCC at the track, where in the Youth race, George Fryer (FWCC) broke away with Harvey Watson (Velocity CC), coming second in the sprint, but first in his age category, and Guy Newbury (FWCC) riding behind with Joe Donohue (FWCC), broke away for the sprint, coming second in the U16's, and Joe coming second in the U14's - Well played guys!  Elsewhere in the youths races, FWCC's top points scorer Caitlin Peters rode a very strong first 20 minutes, towing along her main rival right up until the last few laps, where she zipped past a tired Caitlin to take the victory...In the 3/4ths Anthony Grabam, Ian Donohue, Dave Young and Max Holloway all rode strong races, with Ian perhaps quite predictably breaking away, and holding on in a group of three to take second in the sprint, where Max Holloway came in in 7th place.. Well done lads!  Finally in the E123 riding for FWCC was Phil Reynolds, who after training for 5 hours sailing earlier in the day with Max, rode a strong race to stay with the bunch across the line. I managed to get a lap with two other riders, and thanks to some top quality work from the guys in Blue, White and Red - namely Jay Eastwood and Andy Rivett, with a great lead out train I won the sprint to get first place...  Also I got my 1st cat license through the post this weekend so i'm pretty happy at the moment.. :D  Top work from all the guys at the track today, I know Guy's a little disappointed with his second place, so make him feel loved..
Results are here..
