Fareham Wheelers Cycling Club

founded 1927

Fareham Wheelers

Fareham Wheelers caters for all standards of cycling, from beginner to veteran. The club has a friendly atmosphere and is also competitive when it comes to racing and time trials.

Every Sunday morning throughout the year, we meet for a social ride - the club run. With two groups to choose from, you can join in either the steady or faster social rides around the Hampshire countryside, finishing at a tea shop for refreshment. Rides vary between 25 to 50 miles, you choose.

During the spring and summer season the club holds time trials over various distances and currently has an active road racing team, which is supported by Speltham Contracts. Several members take part in racing at the Goodwood circuit and the Mountbatten Centre track at Portsmouth.

Whether you ride for leisure or sport, cycling is a great way to get fit and stay in shape and a club is the best place to get started, share advice, find out about cycling events and of course, enjoy riding with other keen cyclists. We meet socially on Monday evenings (except Bank Holidays) at Wallington Community Hall, Fareham, 7:30 to 9:30 pm. For more details, follow the options under the About Us heading in the menu above.

Recent praise for the FWCC club run: "I have ridden a couple of the Saturday beginner rides. The rides are an enjoyable and welcoming experience which show the club, and cycling, in an excellent light and the guys leading the ride, Nigel, Gavin and Gareth are a real credit. I am well accustomed to the usual club attitude i.e. turn up on the Sunday clubs run, only to be ignored and then dropped, usually miles from home. The approach taken by Fareham Wheelers is completely the opposite of this and I hope it gets you the number of new members you deserve - it certainly convinced me to join!"

Henry Newbury and Gareth Peters rode the Team Axiom promoted Ditcham Park Hill climb: 41 brave souls took the start including ‘hardened’ seniors from local clubs and lots of junior riders all resplendent in their Ditcham Park CC kit. Henry got a superb second place with a 7:26  beaten by Ian Legg who won the event with a 7:06. Gareth managed a 9:10 which was 19 seconds faster then last year, in his words "...a minor miracle, given how I was feeing on the way up!" This is a great event set in the stunning South Downs.  Thanks to the School for their hospitality and also to Team Axiom for again running the event.

Rachel McGranaghan rode in the cat 3/4 Generation Sports & Cycles summer series race at Upavon - in Rachel's words "...although I didn’t come anywhere I stuck with the bunch...at the pace it started at I thought I was gonna be dropped after the 2nd lap.  It was a lot more challenging than what I have experienced at Mountbatten as it was for an hour plus 3 laps with the 3rd and 4th men.  So needless to say today I feel totally shattered but will be racing tomorrow night!!" Love that attitude Rachel - see you on the track! Results are here..
